In a mixing bowl, combine flour and granulated sugar.

Work in some butter using a pastry blender.

Blend until crumbly.

Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper, letting it hang over both sides. Grease the other two sides. Set aside.

Press the crumbly mixture into bottom of the prepared baking pan.

Bake in a preheated 350F oven for about 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

Meanwhile, for topping combine some brown sugar and corn starch.

Work in some Golden Flavour Crisco using a fork.

Stir in some corn syrup.

Beat in an egg, vanilla and salt.

Remove base from oven.

Pour topping mixture over warm crust.

Return to the oven to bake for 18 - 20 minutes.

Remove from oven and allow to cool. Run a thin blade around crust and let cool completely.

Remove from pan and cut into 24 - 30 pieces.
