To begin making Turnip Patties I folded up some paper towel and placed it in a glass pie plate.

I stood the turnip on its end on top of the paper towel.

Next I put the turnip in the microwave and cooked it on high power for 10 minutes.

When the microwave was done I turned the turnip onto it’s other end and again cooked for 10 minutes.

Once the turnip was cooked on both ends I removed it from the microwave and allowed it to stand for 5 minutes.

Then I cut one end off of the turnip and used two forks to peel the skin down off the turnip.

I turned the turnip over and cut the other end off and transferred it to a mixing bowl.

I used a potato masher to mash the turnip.  It made about 4 cups.

Next  I added some brown sugar, Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 Gluten Free Baking Flour and 2 large eggs to the mashed turnip.

I used a wooden spoon to incorporate all these ingredients well.

Then I diced some yellow onion and cut up some cooked bacon.

I stirred the onion and bacon into the turnip mixture with the large spoon.  I also added in some crushed pecans at this point.

Once all the ingredients were well combined I put some olive oil in a large skillet and turned it to medium heat.

When the oil was hot I used a scoop to drop the mashed turnip mixture into the skillet.  My scoop measured three tablespoons.

Then I used a spatula to flatten the turnip mixture into patties.

I cooked the turnip patties for 3 -4 minutes on one side before flipping them over with the spatula.

It took another 3 – 4 minutes to finish cooking them until golden brown.

As I finished the batches (it took three for me), I transferred the cooked patties to a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Transfer the Turnip Patties to a serving plate as soon as the last batch is complete.

You could easily makes these ahead and just heat them up the day of your Holiday gathering or whenever you choose to serve up these delicious morsels.

Drizzled in maple syrup is how we choose to serve Turnip Patties at our house.  You can choose your own creative presentation.

The contrast of sweet and savoury will delight your palate!
