How to Make Hobo Casserole Italian Style

Prepare some spaghetti according to package directions.

Dice a yellow onion.

Dump lean ground beef into a mixing bowl and add bread crumbs, diced onion and egg.

Blend all together well. Add salt, pepper and basil. Combine again and might need to finish mixing with hands.

Press the ground beef mixture into the bottom of a 9" x 13" baking pan.

Drain and rinse the pasta.

Mix one cup of pasta sauce with the cooked spaghetti.

Spread the spaghetti evenly over top of the ground beef.

Cover the spaghetti with mozzarella cheese slices.

Pour 2 cups of the spaghetti sauce over the cheese slices.

Cover with tinfoil.

Place in preheated 350F oven for 90 minutes.

Near end of cooking time prepare topping by cutting hot dog buns into cubes.

Heat 1/3 cup of margarine in a frying pan and add the cubes and minced garlic.

Stir occasionally over medium heat for about 15 minutes.

After 90 minutes remove the casserole from the oven.

Add the topping. Press the topping in slightly.

Return to the oven for 5 minutes.

Remove from oven. Allow to sit for a few minutes before serving.

Heat some sauce in the microwave. Slice casserole.

Serve.

Spoon extra sauce over top if desired.
