Turnip Apple Crumble Recipe - Gluten Free

1

Fold paper towel and place in a microwaveable dish. Stand turnip on its end on top of paper towel.

2

Put in microwave and cook on high power for 10 minutes. When done turn turnip onto it's other end and again cook for 10 minutes.

3

While turnip cooks prepare chunky apple sauce and crumble topping. Place sliced apples in a microwaveable bowl and add granulated sugar, water and cinnamon. Set aside.

4

Prepare crumble topping by mixing some flour, brown sugar, margarine and salt together in a small bowl.

5

Mix until well combined.

6

Once turnip has been cooked on both ends remove from microwave and allow it to stand for 5 minutes.

7

Cover the apples with wax paper and put them in the microwave to cook on high for 7 to 9 minutes stirring once.

8

Cut one end off of the turnip and use two forks to peel the skin down off the turnip.

9

Turn over and cut the other end off and finish peeling.

10

Place peeled turnip into a mixing bowl.

11

Remove the apple sauce from the microwave and mash with potato masher.

12

Add 1/2 cup of the apple sauce to the turnip and use the potato masher to combine until no large chunks remain.

13

Spray a small casserole dish with cooking spray. Layer a third of the turnip on the bottom. Top with half of the remaining apple sauce. About 1 cup.

14

Repeat the layers ending with turnip.

15

Spread the crumble mixture over the last layer of turnip.

16

Bake uncovered in a preheated 350F oven for 1 hour.

17

Remove from oven.

18

Serve and enjoy!
