I must confess I have never had poutine before.  I have to be careful about consuming cheese and I am not a fan of cheese curds.  This variation was a hit and I will definitely be creating some more in the future.  I was pleasantly surprised at how good and satisfying a poutine can be!

To start making the Tex Mex Poutine I put a bag of crinkle cut french fries in my actifry to cook.  You can cook them in the oven or deep fryer if you do not have  an actifry.

Next I poured some olive oil into a large frying pan and turned the heat to medium.  Once heated I added 1 pound of lean ground beef to the pan.

While the ground beef was cooking I put 2 cups of water and 2 packages of gluten free brown gravy mix into a small sauce pan over medium heat.  I stirred it occasionally while cooking the beef.

Then I sliced up half a yellow onion and added it to the ground beef in the frying pan.

I made sure to break up the ground beef while it was cooking.

When it was browned I added in 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and some water.

I stirred until all the beef was coated in the seasoning.

After the gravy bubbled and thickened I turned the heat down to simmer.  I also turned the ground beef mixture down to a simmer.

After letting both simmer for about 5 minutes I was ready to assemble the poutine.

For this Tex Mex Poutine I put a layer of fries on a serving plate, followed by some of the ground beef mixture, a layer of Tex Mex shredded cheese, and finally I poured gravy over the top of the other layered ingredients.

Tex Mex Poutine is my first exposure to this popular comfort food and it was quickly devoured by my family.  I am looking forward to experimenting with other Poutine variations.

Yummy! For anyone concerned about the salt you can get a taco seasoning and brown gravy packets that come in reduced sodium.

Hi Grace, I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe. Thank you for your suggestion for those that need to consume less salt. Just not sure if the reduced sodium ones where I live are gluten free. Thanks, Kathleen
