Swiss Cheese Dip – Dairy Reduced

Since I have to be careful about my dairy intake I have been avoiding all of my favourite appetizers!  This dairy reduced version of Swiss Cheese Dip still contains all the flavour but I can enjoy it without the worry.

Onions, garlic, nutmeg and sliced almonds combine to give a blend of textures and flavours in this hot appetizer.

There are a variety of gluten free crackers available now to dip into this dairy reduced dip.

Enjoy every dunk of this hot, creamy appetizer without worrying about overloading yourself with dairy.

To begin making Swiss Cheese Dip I grated some swiss cheese.

Then I diced up some yellow onions.

I added the grated cheese and diced onions to a mixing bowl.

Then I dumped in some dairy free cream cheese, Miracle Whip, garlic powder and nutmeg.

The cream cheese I used (Tofutti) was soft but if yours is not you can microwave it to soften it up before adding it to the mixing bowl.

I used a fork to cream and blend all the ingredients together.  Be sure the cream cheese is well blended in to the other ingredients.

Next I spread the mixture into a deep dish pie plate and covered the top with some sliced almonds.

Then I set the pie plate into a preheated 400F oven for 30 minutes until it was brown and bubbling around the edges.  It was also golden across the top.

Let people dip crackers right into the main serving dish or scoop out individual bowls of dip if that makes you more comfortable.

However you choose to serve this dairy reduced version of Swiss Cheese Dip, it will certainly be a hit at any gathering!

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make this Swiss Cheese Dip:

  • 2 1/2 cups shredded swiss cheese
  • 2 yellow onions diced
  • 1 cup Miracle Whip
  • 8 oz dairy free cream cheese (I used Tofutti Brand)
  • 2 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds

How to Make Swiss Cheese Dip:

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Grate the swiss cheese and finely chop the onions.
  3. Add the cheese and onion to a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add the dairy free cream cheese, Miracle Whip, garlic powder and nutmeg. Use a fork to cream and blend the ingredients. Tofutti brand is a soft cream cheese. You may need to soften another brand in the microwave first.
  5. Once the cream cheese is well blended in to the other ingredients transfer the mixture to a deep dish pie plate.
  6. Top the cheese mixture with the sliced almonds.
  7. Place the pie plate in the preheated 400F oven for 30 minutes or until it is brown and bubbling around the edges. The surface will be golden as well.
  8. Remove from oven.
  9. Serve with your favourite gluten free crackers for dipping.
  10. Enjoy!

If you toast the almonds first and then add some to the mixture it gives it an awesome Smokey crunch. Really good.
