Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts are an easy and tasty appetizer to make.  Use a few staple items to create a savoury sauce and use some gluten free bacon.

I used partially cooked bacon so that the cooking time was reduced.

This recipe will make 24 Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts.

It is hard to believe how tasty these little morsels are.  They are always quickly devoured at our gatherings.

To begin making Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts I drained some water chestnuts on some paper towel.

Then I cut the larger water chestnuts in half.

Next I took some partially cooked bacon out of the fridge.  You could use raw bacon and double the cooking time.

Next I cut the bacon slices in half.

Then I placed one of the water chestnuts on the ½ slice of bacon.

I wrapped the bacon around the water chestnut and then held it in place with a toothpick.

Next I greased a small baking pan.

Then I transferred the wrapped water chestnuts to the baking pan.

Before baking in the oven I mixed up some sauce by combining bbq sauce, chili sauce and maple syrup.

Then I spooned the sauce over top of the bacon wraps in the pan.

I placed the baking pan in a preheated 375F oven for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes I removed the baking pan from the oven.

You can serve the Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts straight from the pan or transfer them to a serving tray.

This quick and simple appetizer is a great addition to any gathering or event.

Ingredients You'll Need to Make these Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts:

  • 227ml can water chestnuts, drained
  • 12 pieces partially cooked bacon
  • ½ cup bbq sauce of choice
  • ½ cup chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup

How to Make these Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 375F and grease a small baking pan.
  2. Drain the water chestnuts on some paper towel.
  3. Cut the larger chestnuts in half.
  4. Cut the partially cooked bacon in half.
  5. Wrap the ½ slices of bacon around the drained water chestnuts and skewer with a toothpick to hold in place.
  6. Put the bacon wrapped water chestnuts into the small baking pan.
  7. Prepare sauce by combining the bbq sauce, chili sauce and maple syrup.
  8. Spoon the sauce over top of the bacon wraps.
  9. Bake in the preheated 375F oven for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
  11. Enjoy!
