The first thing I did was to slice up the goose breasts into thin strips. Then I put them in a pan and covered them with Zesty Italian Salad Dressing. I left them to marinate for about 6 hours.
When it was time to cook dinner I started by putting two cups of brown rice to cook in my rice cooker.
While the rice was cooking I prepared the rest of the meal in a large skillet. I knew the rice would take about 30 minutes and the skillet portion would take about 20 minutes.
I put some olive oil in the skillet and turned the heat to medium. Then I threw in a whole bag of frozen California Style mixed vegetables. After stirring for a few minutes I added the slices of goose breast.
Now I allowed these ingredients to cook, stirring occasionally while I prepared the sauce.
For the sauce I mixed some BBQ Sauce, apple sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, salt and pepper in a small bowl.
When the meat and vegetables were cooked I scooped off the liquid that had accumulated in the skillet.
I turned the heat down to simmer and poured the sauce over the ingredients in the pan.
Now I stirred in the sauce to coat all the meat and vegetables. I let it simmer for about 3 minutes.
When the rice was cooked the skillet portion was also complete.
Now it was time to serve and enjoy!
If you have some people that don’t like their rice covered in other food, like my husband, it is easy to accomodate them!
This recipe can be modified to include any vegetables including onions, peppers or mushrooms. Use anything that you have on hand.

FAQS:
How do I store leftover wild goose skillet dinner with rice?
To store leftover wild goose skillet dinner with rice, follow these steps to ensure it stays safe and maintains its quality:
- Cool the food quickly: Allow the wild goose skillet dinner to cool down to room temperature before storing it. Leaving it at room temperature for too long can promote bacterial growth.
- Use airtight containers: Ensure the containers are clean and dry before adding the food.
- Label and date the containers: Use labels or sticky notes to indicate the date when the food was prepared. This will help you keep track of the freshness of the leftovers.
- Refrigerate promptly: Place the containers in the refrigerator as soon as possible. Leftovers should be refrigerated within 2 hours of cooking to prevent bacterial growth.
- Store in the right place: Keep the containers of leftovers in the main body of the refrigerator and not in the refrigerator door. The door is subject to more temperature fluctuations, which may affect the food’s safety.
- Consume within a safe time frame: Wild goose skillet dinner with rice should be consumed within 3 to 4 days if stored properly in the refrigerator.
Reheating instructions:
When you’re ready to reheat the leftovers, make sure to do so thoroughly. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until it is piping hot all the way through. Avoid reheating multiple times as this can lead to the growth of harmful bacteria.
Remember, proper storage and reheating are essential to prevent foodborne illnesses and to keep the flavor and texture of the leftovers as good as possible. When in doubt, always use your senses and discard any leftovers that seem off in terms of appearance, smell, or taste.
Can I freeze wild goose skillet dinner with rice?
Yes, you can freeze a wild goose skillet dinner with rice. Freezing is a common method to preserve cooked meals, including those with rice. However, there are some important steps to follow to ensure that your frozen dinner stays fresh and safe to eat:
- Cool Down: Allow the wild goose skillet dinner to cool down to room temperature before freezing. Placing hot food directly in the freezer can raise the temperature inside the freezer, potentially affecting the quality of other frozen items and increasing the risk of bacteria growth.
- Portion Control: Consider dividing the meal into individual portions before freezing. This will make it easier to thaw and reheat only the amount you need at a given time, reducing waste.
- Airtight Containers: Use airtight containers or freezer-safe bags to store the meal. Remove as much air as possible from the containers to prevent freezer burn and maintain the quality of the food.
- Labeling: Label the containers or bags with the date of preparation to keep track of how long it has been in the freezer. It’s also helpful to note what’s inside and any reheating instructions.
- Freeze Quickly: Place the containers in the freezer as soon as they’ve cooled down to room temperature. Rapid freezing helps preserve the texture and flavor of the food.
- Use within a Reasonable Timeframe: While frozen food can last a long time, it’s best to consume it within three to six months for optimal quality. Over time, the quality may decline even though the food remains safe to eat.
- Thawing and Reheating: When you’re ready to enjoy your frozen wild goose skillet dinner, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or use the defrost function on your microwave. Reheat it thoroughly, ensuring that it reaches a safe internal temperature (165°F or 74°C) to kill any potential bacteria.
By following these steps, you can safely freeze and enjoy your wild goose skillet dinner with rice at a later date.
