To begin making Apple Cinnamon Dump Cake I sprayed a 9″ x 13″ pan with cooking spray.

Then I opened two tins of apple pie filling.  I used a knife to slice the apple pieces into smaller chunks.

Next I spread the apple pie filling out evenly in the prepared pan.

I dumped some cinnamon hearts into my mortar.

Then I used the pestle to crush them up.

Once the cinnamon hearts were crushed I spread some of them on top of the apples.  I reserved some to use as a topping after the cake was almost done baking.

Next I put a gluten free yellow cake mix on top of the apples.

I spread the cake mix out evenly.

I thinly sliced up some butter.

Then I covered the cake mix with the slices of butter.

Next I baked the cake in a preheated 350F oven for 45 – 55 minutes.

I sprinkled the reserved cinnamon candy on top of the cake for the last 10 minutes of baking.

After removing the cake from the oven I allowed it to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Eat it plain or top it off with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.

You will enjoy every bite of this light and easy dessert!

How do I store apple cinnamon dump cake?

Storing apple cinnamon dump cake properly ensures it stays fresh and delicious. Here are the steps to store it:

Short-term Storage (1-2 days):

  1. Cool Completely: Allow the cake to cool completely at room temperature. This prevents condensation from forming and making the cake soggy.

Long-term Storage (Up to 3 months):

  1. Cool Completely: Again, let the cake cool completely.
  2. Double Wrap for Extra Protection: After wrapping in plastic, you can add an extra layer by wrapping it in aluminum foil.
  3. Label and Freeze: Label the package with the date and contents, then place it in the freezer. The cake can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Reheating Instructions:

  • From Refrigeration: If stored in the refrigerator, you can reheat individual portions in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds, or until warmed through. For larger portions, reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
  • From Freezer: If frozen, allow the cake to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Then reheat as described above.

Are these candies the Red Hot cinnamon imperials?

Kathleen

Hi Al, Not sure where you are located but in Canada they come out every Valentine's Day. You can use any hot cinnamon candy. For extra cinnamon flavour you could sprinkle some ground cinnamon on the top before baking too. Take care, Kathleen
