Chunky Apple Sauce

Chunky Apple Sauce is a very easy microwave recipe that allows you to enjoy fresh apple sauce in a matter of minutes!

It is the season for preparing batches of apple sauce on the farm.

Whether you serve Chunky Apple Sauce immediately to top off your favourite pork dish, eat it as a snack, or preserve it for a later date this recipe is an easy way to make some tasty apple sauce.

It can be used in many other recipes as well, such as Turnip Apple Crumble or mixed into a batter.

The first step is to peel, core and slice up the apples to make about 4 cups in a microwave safe bowl.  

I used a glass measuring cup.

Now I added some water and sugar before I sprinkled some cinnamon on top of the apples.

Preparing the apple sauce.

Then I covered the measuring cup with wax paper before placing it in the microwave on high for 7 to 9 minutes.

My microwave is 1200 watts.

I removed the apple sauce from the microwave at the midway point of cooking and gave it a quick stir.

Then I covered it with wax paper again and returned it to the microwave for the remainder of the cook time.

After the 9 minutes were up I removed the apple sauce from the microwave and stirred it again.

Then I used a potato masher to create the chunky apple sauce.

The consistency of the apple sauce is up to you and may depend on what you are using it for.

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon

What type of Apple's do you use? Looks delicious.
