To begin making Tater Tot Casserole with Ham, I cut up some leftover cooked ham into bite size pieces.

Then I put the cut up ham and ½ the Tater Tots I was going to be using into a large mixing bowl.

Next I grated some cheddar cheese and sliced up some green onion.

Then I added in 2 cans of gluten free condensed cream of chicken soup, some almond milk, pepper, dry mustard, green onion and ½ of the cheese I had grated.

I stirred all the ingredients together well.

Then I greased a large casserole dish (mine was 2.8 litres).

Then I scraped the Tater Tot mixture into the greased casserole.

Next I arranged the remainder of the Tater Tots over top of the mixture in the casserole dish.

I sprinkled the remainder of the grated cheddar cheese on top.

Then I put the casserole dish in the preheated 400F for 40 - 45 minutes.

After cooking I allowed it to sit for a couple of minutes.

FAQS:

What should I serve with tater tot casserole with ham?

Tater tot casserole with ham is a hearty and comforting dish, so you'll want to complement it with sides that enhance its flavors and provide balance to the meal. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Green Salad: A simple green salad with a light vinaigrette dressing can add freshness and contrast to the richness of the casserole.
  2. Steamed Vegetables: Serve steamed vegetables like broccoli, green beans, or carrots on the side for a nutritious addition to the meal.
  3. Gluten Free Cornbread: Cornbread is a classic choice that pairs well with the flavors of the casserole. You can serve it warm with butter on the side.
  4. Fruit Salad: A fruit salad with a variety of fresh fruits like berries, grapes, and melon can provide a refreshing and colorful element to the meal.
  5. Gluten Free Garlic Bread: Garlic bread is another delicious option that complements the flavors of the casserole and adds a bit of crunch.
  6. Roasted Potatoes: Since you already have tater tots in the casserole, consider serving roasted potatoes as a side dish for a double dose of potato goodness.
  7. Steamed Rice: Steamed rice can serve as a neutral base to soak up the flavors of the casserole, and it's quick and easy to prepare.
  8. Coleslaw: Creamy coleslaw provides a crunchy texture and a hint of sweetness that can balance out the savory flavors of the casserole.

Choose one or a combination of these sides based on your preferences and what you think will best complement your tater tot casserole with ham. Enjoy your meal!

How do I store tater tot casserole with ham?

Storing tater tot casserole with ham is fairly straightforward. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Cooling: Allow the casserole to cool down to room temperature before storing. This prevents condensation buildup inside the storage container, which can make the casserole soggy.
  2. Divide into Portions (Optional): If you've made a large casserole and won't be consuming it all at once, consider dividing it into smaller portions. This makes it easier to reheat only what you need later on.
  3. Storage Container: Choose an airtight container that is suitable for storing leftovers. Glass or plastic containers with tight-fitting lids work well.
  4. Refrigeration: Place the container in the refrigerator promptly after cooking. Tater tot casserole with ham can typically be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  5. Reheating: To reheat, you can use the microwave, oven, or stovetop. Make sure the internal temperature reaches a safe level (165°F or 74°C) before serving.
  6. Quality Check: Before consuming leftovers, always inspect them for any signs of spoilage, such as off odor, mold, or unusual texture. If the casserole looks or smells questionable, it's best to discard it to avoid foodborne illness.

By following these steps, you can safely store tater tot casserole with ham and enjoy it later with minimal hassle.

Can I freeze tater tot casserole with ham?

Yes, you can freeze tater tot casserole with ham. However, it's important to follow some guidelines to ensure the best quality when you reheat it later:

  1. Allow the casserole to cool completely before freezing. This helps prevent ice crystals from forming inside the dish.
  2. Use a freezer-safe container or wrap the casserole tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil to prevent freezer burn and odors from seeping in.
  3. Label the container with the date of freezing to keep track of how long it's been in the freezer.
  4. When you're ready to reheat the casserole, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. This slow thawing process helps maintain the texture and flavor.
  5. Reheat the thawed casserole in the oven at a low to moderate temperature (around 325°F to 350°F or 160°C to 175°C) until heated through. Cover the dish with foil to prevent the top from over-browning before the center is heated.

By following these steps, you can enjoy your tater tot casserole with ham even after freezing it.

  1. Hi Kathleen. American here. When you post your recipes to Erin's site, would you please add the American measurements to your recipes in addition to the metric measurements? I don't know about other American cooks, but **I** would prefer not having to do the conversion whenever I am getting my ingredients together. Thank you so much!!
