To begin making Chocolate Dipped Bugles I placed some semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwaveable safe measuring cup.

Then I placed the chocolate chips in the microwave on low for 20 second intervals.  I stirred the chocolate in between intervals.

While the chocolate was melting I put some peanut butter into a Ziploc bag.

I clipped one corner of the bag.

Next I piped the peanut butter into the Bugles.  Not all of them were open enough to pipe the peanut butter in but you can dip these ones in chocolate without filling them.

I put the filled Bugles on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

After a couple of minutes of 20 second intervals the chocolate will become smooth after some stirring.

Then I dipped the open end of each Bugle into the melted chocolate.

I placed the dipped Bugles onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

I immediately placed a Reese’s Pieces on the end of each Bugle.

After all the Bugles were dipped in chocolate I let them set on the lined cookie sheet.

I left them to set for about an 1 1/2 hours.

How do I store chocolate dipped Bugles?

Storing chocolate-dipped Bugles properly is important to maintain their freshness and prevent the chocolate from melting or becoming too soft. Here are some tips:

  1. Cooling and Setting:
    • After dipping Bugles in chocolate, allow them to cool and set completely before storing.
    • Place them on a parchment paper-lined tray and let them sit at room temperature or in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.
  2. Room Temperature Storage:
    • If your room temperature is cool and stable, you can store the chocolate-dipped Bugles in an airtight container at room temperature.
    • Choose a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
  3. Refrigeration:
    • If the room temperature is warm or if you’re concerned about the chocolate melting, you can store them in the refrigerator.
    • Place them in a single layer in an airtight container to prevent them from absorbing any odors from the fridge.
  4. Avoid Moisture:
    • Keep chocolate-dipped Bugles away from moisture as it can cause the chocolate to become soft and lose its texture.
    • If storing in the refrigerator, make sure the container is airtight to prevent condensation.
  5. Layering:
    • If you need to stack the Bugles in the container, consider placing parchment paper or wax paper between the layers to prevent them from sticking together.
  6. Serve at Room Temperature:
    • Before serving, allow the chocolate-dipped Bugles to come to room temperature for the best texture and flavor.

Remember that the ideal storage conditions can vary depending on the specific ingredients used and your local climate. Observing how the chocolate reacts to different storage methods will help you determine the best approach for your specific situation.

Can I freeze chocolate dipped Bugles?

Yes, you can freeze chocolate-dipped Bugles. Freezing can help preserve the freshness and texture of the chocolate coating. Here’s a general guide on how to freeze them:

  1. Allow the Chocolate to Set: After dipping the Bugles in chocolate, allow them to set at room temperature until the chocolate hardens.
  2. Arrange on a Tray or Plate: Place the chocolate-dipped Bugles on a tray or plate, making sure they are not touching each other. This prevents them from sticking together during freezing.
  3. Pre-Freeze: Put the tray or plate in the freezer for about 1-2 hours. This step is known as pre-freezing and helps the Bugles retain their shape when stored together.
  4. Transfer to an Airtight Container or Bag: Once the Bugles are pre-frozen, transfer them to an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Make sure to remove as much air as possible from the container or bag to prevent freezer burn.
  5. Label and Date: It’s a good practice to label the container or bag with the date of freezing. This helps you keep track of how long they’ve been in the freezer.
  6. Store in the Freezer: Place the container or bag in the freezer. Chocolate-dipped Bugles can typically be stored in the freezer for several weeks.
  7. Thawing: When you’re ready to enjoy the frozen chocolate-dipped Bugles, remove them from the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature for a bit before serving. This helps prevent condensation from forming on the chocolate.

Keep in mind that freezing might affect the crispiness of the Bugles to some extent, but they should still be enjoyable. Always consider the specific ingredients and instructions in your recipe and adjust accordingly.
