The first step to make Black Forest Crispy Rice Squares was to dump some margarine into a large saucepan over med/low heat with a few semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Once the margarine and chocolate chips had melted I added in some marshmallows.

Then I stirred until the marshmallows were melted and well blended.

While the chocolate and marshmallows were melting I cut up some glazed cherries into quarters.  Enough to make one cup.

I removed the sauce pan from the heat and stirred in some Crispy Rice Cereal.  Just make sure you use a gluten free type of Rice Krispies.

Then I dumped in the cut up cherries and stirred again until the fruit was well incorporated.

Next I smeared margarine on the bottom and sides of a 9" x 13" baking pan.

I scraped the cereal mixture into the baking pan.

Then using a spatula smeared with margarine I pressed and spread the cereal mixture evenly in the baking pan.

While the Black Forest Crispy Rice Squares were setting I made the topping.

First I put some white chocolate chips, almond milk and some margarine into a microwave safe measuring cup.

I melted the chips on medium/high heat at 30 second intervals until almost completely melted.

While melting the white chocolate I cut 12 glazed cherries in half (you will want as many halves as servings), for 24 squares.

I also grated ½ a square of semi-sweet baking chocolate.

Once the squares had cooled I poured the melted white chocolate over the cereal mixture in the baking pan.

I spread it out evenly.

Then I spaced the cherry halves I had prepared, evenly over the white chocolate to suit where I would be making cuts for squares later.

The final step was to sprinkle the grated chocolate over the whole dessert.

I allowed the Black Forest Crispy Rice Squares to cool and set before cutting into them.

This variation of traditional Rice Krispie Squares is a great way to mix things up.

These chewy, gluten free dessert squares require no baking so they make a great summer treat.

But you and your family can enjoy their chewy, layered goodness any time of the year!
