To begin making Boiled Cranberry Orange Frosting I softened some butter in the microwave.

Then I dumped some granulated sugar, evaporated milk and the softened butter into a sauce pan.

After stirring, I turned the heat to medium and stirred occasionally until mixture came to a boil.

In the mean time I zested one orange.

I also prepared the rest of the ingredients needed.

Once the mixture started to boil I stirred continuously and let it continue boiling for 4 minutes.

After four minutes I removed the mixture from the heat and stirred in some white chocolate chips and marshmallow creme.

After the white chocolate chips and marshmallow creme were incorporated I added in some craisins and the orange zest.

Then I allowed the frosting to cool.

Once cooled I used an electric hand mixer to fluff up the frosting.

Then I spread the delicious Boiled Cranberry Orange Frosting over the top of a Cranberry Orange Cake.

How do I store boiled cranberry orange frosting?

Here are general guidelines storing boiled cranberry orange frosting:

  1. Refrigeration: Place the frosting in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Butter-based frostings can become soft at room temperature, especially in warm weather, so refrigeration helps maintain their texture.
  2. Sealing Properly: Make sure the container is tightly sealed to prevent the frosting from absorbing odors from the refrigerator and to avoid drying out.
  3. Labeling: If you’re planning to store it for an extended period, consider labeling the container with the date so you can keep track of its freshness.
  4. Bringing to Room Temperature: When you’re ready to use the frosting, take it out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before using. This allows the frosting to soften and become spreadable again. You can also beat the icing again.

Can I freeze boiled cranberry orange frosting?

Freezing cranberry orange frosting can be done, but it’s important to follow some guidelines to maintain its quality:

  1. Use airtight containers: Transfer the frosting into airtight containers or sealable plastic bags. Make sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn and maintain the texture.
  2. Label and date: Clearly label the containers with the date of freezing to keep track of how long it has been stored. This will help you use it within a reasonable timeframe for the best quality.
  3. Thawing: When you’re ready to use the frosting, move it to the refrigerator to thaw slowly. Avoid thawing it at room temperature to prevent the separation of ingredients and maintain the consistency.
  4. Re-whipping (if needed): After thawing, the texture of the frosting may change slightly. You may need to re-whip it to restore its original consistency. Use an electric mixer for this, and add a bit more powdered sugar or liquid if necessary to achieve the desired texture.
  5. Check for freshness: Before using the thawed frosting, check for any changes in flavor, texture, or color. If it looks and smells fine, it should be safe to use.

Keep in mind that freezing can affect the texture of some frostings, especially those that contain dairy or fruit components. It’s always a good idea to do a small test batch before freezing a large quantity to ensure that the results meet your expectations.
