To begin making Gluten Free Meatballs I diced up some yellow onion.
Then I dumped some lean ground beef into a mixing bowl.
Next I added in the diced onion, bread crumbs, large eggs, basil, salt and pepper. I added 3 eggs to start and then decided to add the 4th egg so it would be moist enough to form the meatballs.
I added some olive oil to a large skillet and turned it to medium/medium low heat.
Then it was time to get my hands dirty. I mixed all the ingredients into the ground beef until well combined. I started with a large wooden spoon but finished with my hands.
Then I wet my hands, scooped the ground beef out with a 3 tablespoon scoop and shaped the beef into balls before placing them in the heated skillet.
Once the first batch was in the skillet I covered the meatballs and allowed them to cook for 8 – 10 minutes.
Then I removed the lid and flipped the meatballs to cook them on the other side. I covered them again.
After the first batch was completed I transferred them to a parchment paper lined baking sheet and started the next batch.
If adding the meatballs to home made Spaghetti Sauce you can do that after the sauce has simmered for an hour.
Serve up your meatballs with dipping sauce or smothered in your favourite gravy.
However you choose to serve up your Gluten Free Meatballs you will enjoy these morsels loaded with beef, onion and seasonings.
Our favourite meal is spaghetti and meatballs smothered in homemade Spaghetti Sauce.

FAQS:
What should I serve with gluten free meatballs?
There are plenty of options to serve with gluten-free meatballs. Here are some suggestions:
- Gluten-free Pasta: Serve your meatballs with gluten-free pasta such as rice pasta, quinoa pasta, or chickpea pasta. You can toss the pasta with marinara sauce or a creamy Alfredo sauce.
- Vegetables: Roasted or steamed vegetables make a great side dish. Consider options like roasted broccoli, cauliflower, or carrots. You can also make a simple salad with mixed greens and your favorite vegetables.
- Rice or Quinoa: Serve your meatballs with cooked rice or quinoa. These grains are naturally gluten-free and can be seasoned to complement the flavors of the meatballs.
- Zucchini Noodles: If you’re looking for a lighter option, you can serve the meatballs with zucchini noodles. Use a spiralizer to make the noodles and sauté them lightly before serving.
- Gluten-free Bread or Rolls: If you’d like to make meatball sandwiches, look for gluten-free bread or rolls to use as a base. You can toast the bread and add your favorite toppings like marinara sauce, cheese, and fresh basil.
- Polenta: Creamy polenta is a delicious gluten-free option to serve with meatballs. Cook the polenta according to the package instructions and serve it topped with the meatballs and sauce.
- Mashed Potatoes: Creamy mashed potatoes are always a comforting side dish. Serve the meatballs alongside mashed potatoes and your favorite gluten-free gravy.
- Stir-fried Vegetables: Stir-fried vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, and mushrooms make a tasty and colorful side dish. Season them with gluten-free soy sauce or your favorite stir-fry sauce.
Remember to check the ingredients of any pre-made sauces or condiments to ensure they are gluten-free, and if you’re serving guests, it’s always a good idea to communicate about any dietary restrictions or preferences they may have.
How do I store gluten free meatballs?
Storing gluten-free meatballs is similar to storing regular meatballs. Here’s how you can do it:
- Refrigeration: If you plan to consume the meatballs within a few days, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Make sure the container is tightly sealed to prevent any moisture loss or absorption of odors from other foods. Properly refrigerated, gluten-free meatballs should last 3 to 4 days.
- Labeling: Always label the container or bag with the date of preparation so you can keep track of how long they’ve been stored.
- Thawing: When you’re ready to eat the meatballs, you can microwave them, bake them in the oven, or simmer them in sauce on the stovetop.
- Safe Storage Practices: Remember to always practice good food safety habits. Keep cooked meatballs away from raw meat and other potential sources of contamination. Ensure they are stored at appropriate temperatures to prevent bacterial growth.
By following these steps, you can store your gluten-free meatballs safely and enjoy them at your convenience.
Can I freeze gluten free meatballs?
Yes, you can definitely freeze gluten-free meatballs. Freezing them is a great way to extend their shelf life and have them ready for future meals. Here’s a simple guide to freezing gluten-free meatballs:
- Cool Down: Allow the cooked gluten-free meatballs to cool down to room temperature before freezing. This helps prevent condensation inside the storage container, which can lead to freezer burn.
- Arrange on a Baking Sheet: Place the cooled meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Make sure they’re not touching each other to prevent them from sticking together during freezing.
- Flash Freeze: Put the baking sheet with the meatballs in the freezer for about an hour or until the meatballs are firm. This process is called flash freezing and helps prevent the meatballs from clumping together when you transfer them to a storage container.
- Transfer to Freezer Bags or Containers: Once the meatballs are frozen, transfer them into freezer bags or airtight containers. Label the bags or containers with the date of freezing for reference.
- Remove Air: If you’re using freezer bags, try to remove as much air as possible before sealing them. This helps prevent freezer burn and extends the quality of the meatballs.
- Store in the Freezer: Place the sealed bags or containers in the freezer. Make sure to store them in a single layer if possible to prevent them from sticking together.
- Thawing: When you’re ready to use the meatballs, you can thaw them overnight in the refrigerator or reheat them directly from frozen in a saucepan or microwave.
By following these steps, you can freeze your gluten-free meatballs effectively and enjoy them whenever you want without compromising their taste or texture.
