The first thing I did to make these Moose Burgers, was dice enough yellow onion to make 1/2 cup.

Then I cooked 5 slices of bacon in a frying pan.

Do not over cook.  You do not need the bacon crispy.

While the bacon cooked I dumped the ground moose into a large mixing bowl.

Now I added a large egg, salt, pepper, mustard powder and paprika to the meat in the bowl.

I mixed these ingredients well.

Then I dumped in the diced onion, some bacon grease and cut up the bacon and added it as well.

Once the bacon and onion were mixed into the meat I formed the meat into patties.  I made 6 patties that were just over 6oz each.

Then placed the patties on a preheated BBQ.

I grilled the patties for 7 – 8 minutes on one side.

Then I flipped the patties and continuted grilling for another 6 – 7 minutes.

Once the Moose Burgers were cooked I removed them from the grill.

I placed the patties on gluten free buns.

Let everyone add their favourite condiments.

Enjoy this thick and juicy burger any time of the year!

Another option is to serve it up like a salisbury steak and add your favourite side dishes.

No matter how you serve up these delicious Moose Burgers I am sure you will savour every bite!

FAQS:

What should I serve with moose burgers?

Serving moose burgers can be a delicious and unique experience. When deciding what to serve alongside them, consider complementing the rich and robust flavor of the moose meat while providing a balanced and satisfying meal. Here are some ideas:

  1. Buns: Start with soft gluten free burger buns.
  2. Cheese: Offer a selection of cheeses to top the burgers, such as cheddar, Swiss, blue cheese, or gouda. They add creaminess and extra flavor.
  3. Condiments: Provide a variety of condiments for people to personalize their burgers. Classic options include ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and barbecue sauce. You can also consider making special sauces like garlic aioli or chipotle mayo.
  4. Vegetables: Fresh and crisp vegetables are a must. Lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and pickles are popular choices that add texture and freshness.
  5. Side salad: A light green salad or a coleslaw can be refreshing and complement the richness of the burgers. Try a mix of greens, shredded carrots, and a tangy vinaigrette.
  6. Sweet potato fries: Swap regular fries for sweet potato fries. They’re slightly sweet and pair well with the savory moose burgers.
  7. Grilled vegetables: Fire up the grill and cook some zucchini, bell peppers, or mushrooms as a flavorful side dish.
  8. Potato salad: A classic potato salad, either creamy or vinegar-based, is a comforting side that complements the burgers nicely.
  9. Poutine: If you want to add a Canadian twist, serve some poutine—a dish of french fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in gravy.
  10. Fruit platter: Fresh fruit like watermelon, pineapple, or berries can add a touch of sweetness and refreshment to the meal.
  11. Beverages: Offer a selection of beverages to accompany the meal, such as soda, iced tea, lemonade, or local craft beers.

Remember to consider any dietary preferences or restrictions of your guests when planning the side dishes. By offering a variety of options, everyone can customize their meal to their liking and enjoy the moose burgers to the fullest. Enjoy your meal!

How do I store moose burgers before they are grilled?

To store moose burgers safely and maintain their quality, follow these steps:

  1. Refrigeration: If you plan to consume the moose burgers within a few days, store them in the refrigerator. Place the burgers in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Make sure to separate the individual patties with wax paper to prevent sticking. Keep the temperature of your refrigerator at 40°F (4°C) or below.
  2. Remove Air: Try to remove as much air as possible from the storage container to maintain freshness.
  3. Use-By Date: If you are storing moose burgers in the refrigerator, be sure to consume them before their use-by date or within 1-2 days after purchase or preparation.
  4. Safe Handling: Always practice safe food handling and hygiene when preparing and storing moose burgers. Wash your hands before and after handling raw meat, and ensure that all cooking utensils and surfaces are cleaned thoroughly to avoid cross-contamination.

Can I freeze grilled moose burgers?

Yes, you can freeze grilled moose burgers, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind to ensure the best quality when you reheat and consume them later.

  1. Cool the burgers: After grilling the moose burgers, allow them to cool down to room temperature before freezing. This helps to avoid condensation inside the packaging, which can lead to freezer burn.
  2. Package them properly: Individually wrap each grilled moose burger in plastic wrap or use wax paper to prevent them from sticking together. Alternatively, you can use freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags.
  3. Minimize air exposure: Try to remove as much air as possible from the packaging before sealing it. Excess air can cause freezer burn and affect the taste and texture of the burgers.
  4. Label and date: Clearly label the packaging with the date of freezing. This way, you can keep track of how long the burgers have been in the freezer.
  5. Freeze promptly: Place the wrapped or packaged grilled moose burgers in the coldest part of your freezer as soon as possible after cooking to maintain their quality.
  6. Best consumed within a reasonable time: While freezing grilled moose burgers can extend their shelf life, it’s best to consume them within 3 to 4 months for the best taste and texture.

When you’re ready to enjoy the frozen grilled moose burgers, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or use the defrost setting on your microwave. It’s essential to reheat the burgers thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) before eating. You can reheat them in an oven, microwave, stovetop, or grill until they are heated through.

Keep in mind that while freezing is a great way to preserve moose burgers, the quality of the meat may degrade slightly compared to eating them fresh. Freezing can cause some moisture loss, potentially affecting the juiciness of the burgers. However, if you follow the proper freezing and reheating procedures, you should still be able to enjoy delicious grilled moose burgers even after freezing.
