Caputo Flour Crescent Rolls

Caputo Flour Crescent Rolls are soft, rolls with a light and flaky texture. Shaped like small crescents or curved moons, they are golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside.

Their slightly sweet and rich flavor makes them versatile, suitable for both sweet and savory pairings.

This bread recipe yields 16 crescent rolls.  You can experiment by leaving the dough a bit thicker when you roll it out and that will change your yield.

These soft, warm rolls make a great addition to holiday meals or serve them up any day of the week!

To begin making Caputo Flour Crescent Rolls I dumped some Caputo gluten free flour, granulated sugar, almond flour and psyllium husk powder into the bowl for my stand mixer.

Dump the caputo flour, almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder salt and sugar into the bowl of a stand mixer.

I mixed the ingredients together on low speed.

Mix the caputo flour, almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder salt and sugar on low speed until blended.

Then I added one packet of quick-rise yeast and again turned the mixer to low speed the yeast was incorporated.

Mix in the rapid rise yeast.

After mixing the dry ingredients I slowly added in some warm water while the mixer was on low speed.

Next I poured in some melted butter and half of a beaten egg, while it was still mixing on low speed.

Then I turned the stand mixer to medium speed for 5 minutes.  I scraped the sides of the bowl at the half way point.

I covered the mixing bowl with some plastic wrap and let it sit for about 1 1/2 hours. 

I put mine in the microwave with a cup of warm water beside it for extra moisture.

After 1 1/2 hours I removed the dough from the microwave.

I used a knife to divide the dough in two.

I lightly floured my pastry sheet.

I lifted one half of the dough out onto the floured pastry sheet.

I sprinkled more gluten free flour on the top of half of the dough and then covered it with plastic wrap.

I used a rolling pin to roll the dough into a rectangle about 14″ x 7″.

Then I softened some butter in the microwave.

Next I brushed half of the softened butter on top of the dough rectangle.

After brushing the dough with half of the softened butter I cut it into triangles.

Then I rolled the dough up starting from the wide end.

Repeat with the second half of the dough.

Next I covered a cookie sheet with parchment paper and placed the rolled up dough on the sheet.

I brushed each crescent roll with some of the reserved beaten egg.

Then I placed the rolls in a preheated 350F oven for 12 -14 minutes.

After 14 minutes I removed the crescent rolls from the oven and allowed them to cool slightly.

These Caputo Flour Crescent Rolls are best when served warm.

Enjoy them with more softened butter or your favourite spread.

  4. Melt the first amount of butter in the microwave and then add it to the dry ingredients while the mixer is turning on low speed.
  5. Also pour in half of the beaten egg.
  6. Mix on medium speed for about 5 minutes.  Scrape sides of the bowl at the half way point.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 1 1/2 hours.  
  8. Preheat oven to 350F.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  10. Cut the dough in half.
  11. Sprinkle gluten free flour on a pastry sheet and place half the dough out on top of it.
  12. Sprinkle one half with gluten free flour and place plastic wrap on top.
  13. Roll first half of dough out into a rectangle about 14″ x 7″.
  14. Soften the second amount of butter in the microwave.
  15. Brush half the softened butter on top of the dough.
  16. Cut dough into triangles.  Each half made 8 rolls for me.
  17. Roll up the dough from the wide end to make the crescent roll shape.
  18. Transfer the rolls to the prepared baking sheet.
  19. Repeat with the other half of the dough.
  20. Brush each roll with the remaining beaten egg.
  21. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven for 12 – 14 minutes.
  22. Remove and allow to cool slightly.
  23. Serve warm.
